Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In recent news from the Global AI Summit 2022 held in Riyadh, the members of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) agreed to adopt the Riyadh AI Call for Action Declaration (RAICA). The goal of this declaration is to implement AI technology in a wider application to better serve the community.
All ten members of the DCO signed the declaration, including Bahrain, Djibouti, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria Oman Pakistan, Rwanda and Saudi Arabia.
The DCO is committed to addressing present, emerging and future humanitarian issues with AI. The declaration highlights the different ways AI can be a tool for making the lives of millions around the world better by improving work quality, developing public policy and nurturing efficiencies in the environment.
At the event, Secretary General of DCO, Deemah Al Yahya addressed the attendees and presented a unanimous statement on behalf of the organization. “DCO was created with the ethos of establishing an inclusive digital economy through collaboration across diverse entities at all levels. The RAICA declaration is this idea put into practice. By signing this declaration all DCO member states are reaffirming their shared desire to usher in a brighter future for all by harnessing the huge potential of AI to improve the lives of people around the world,” she said.

The declaration supports seven key pillars for ensuring the safety and enjoyment of AI by all. For example, principle eleven is about ensuring that AI does not have any adverse effects on people’s work efficiency. These include:
- Help the marginalized communities and make sure that countries have a better understanding of AI in order to close the digital divide. This can be done by educating people on AI, increasing expertise, and developing new solutions to help everyone better understand it.
- Use AI to make economic growth happen in poverty-stricken communities, usher in the new agricultural revolution, and work to ensure that all members of society have access to education and healthcare.
- It’s important to invest in AI development to improve connectivity, infrastructure and productivity. Promote AI adoption by investing in innovative solutions that can contribute to building stronger communities. Support the growth of AI start-ups, provide digital skills training and reskilling opportunities for individuals and exchange best practices with other nations.
- To avoid discriminatory practices by AI, we recommend that policymakers consult with experts and other stakeholders to ensure fair algorithms.
- AI innovation is encouraged in various ways for human use. Compile AI resources to help individuals, organizations and nations use AI for the good of humanity.
- AI can help combat climate change by promoting measures for conserving the environment, supporting a green energy industry and providing easy access to clean water, while also increasing power efficiency and reducing waste.
- Team up with some of the best minds in AI through global cooperation and collaboration. Establish a safe environment for AI to work by developing shared, global standards, regulations and solutions that will address all ethical use.
DCO will be establishing several programs to ensure these initiatives are realized. To do this, they will push for AI literacy and teach people how to utilize the technology in their profession. They will also work with other organizations to examine how AI can be used to promote human rights, improve digital infrastructure and adopt ethical guidelines, etc., before developing ways to utilize AI in supporting global climate efforts and work across nations.
